History of Limousines

Limousines have been since long ago and they will continue to be a symbol of luxury, power, elegance, but also of safety and quality. Their history goes as far as the origins of the emergence of the automobiles. The longing for prestigious, luxurious and exceptional cars was shown not only by the wealthy manufacturers and entrepreneurs, but also in the political circles. The desire to distinguish oneself, to disphilay one's power and assets made the automobile producers start to create, aside from the cars for the „common citizens“, also special cars, which were representative and accordingly pompous.

One of the first automobile trademarks in Europe, which started to produce such cars and also to use the word „limousine“, was Mercedes-Benz. This company arose in 1926 by merger of the companies of Mr. Gottlieb Daimler and Mr. Karl Benz. The famous symbol of Mercedes – the tricuspid star in a circle – is known already since 1909 and it is Gottlieb Daimler, who created it. The label Mercedes comes from the first name of one of the daughters of the successful car seller Hans Jellinek.

Mercedes-Benz was from the very beginning known for its quality, the power and the reliability of its engines, which were able to drive hundreds of thousands of kilometres with no substantial trouble. The trademark became famous also for its comfort, its elegant looks and luxurious interior. Everything was supplemented by above standard equipment already from the basic models.

From the beginning Mercedes-Benz also aimed at creating new technologies for the safety of the travellers and for their comfort and convenience. It was among the first producers in Europe, who came up with the safety airbags. Its diesel engines are among the most high-quality, the most powerful and the most enduring ones. This is why Mercedes-Benz is deservedly considered to be a worldwide top producer of automobiles and the limousines with star on the hood continue to be among the most sought after service limousines in Prague and throughout the world.
